Whole home humidifiers use a water panel to infuse the air with moisture before circulating it through your home. This water panel needs to be replaced periodically because it becomes clogged with minerals and debris from your water source. If you have hard water, you'll need to change the panel more frequently.
The best time to replace your water panel is in the fall, before the humidification season begins. You should also check it periodically throughout the winter to see if it needs an additional change.
Water Panel Replacement Steps
1. Turn off your furnace power. 2. Locate the humidifier panel cover on the outside of the unit. 3. Slide out the enclosure that holds the water panel. 4. Remove and dispose of the old water panel. 5. Insert a new water panel into the enclosure. 6. Make sure the enclosure is inserted securely. 7. Close or replace the panel cover. 8. Restore power to the furnace.

Portable Humidifier Maintenance
Portable humidifiers require more frequent maintenance than whole-home systems. They should be cleaned regularly to prevent mold and bacterial growth. Empty the water tank daily, clean it with a mild bleach solution weekly, and replace the filter as recommended by the manufacturer.
